The Blue Tuxedo Guppy is a favorite among aquarists for its metallic blue shimmer that blends into a tuxedo-black base. Under aquarium lights, these guppies glow, making them one of the most stunning guppy strains.
Appearance & Traits
Male Blue Tuxedo Guppies are smaller but more vibrant, showing off a bright metallic blue body with long, flowing fins. Females are larger, reaching about 2.5–3 inches, and display softer blue tones along with the characteristic gravid spot. On average, males grow to around 1.5 inches. With proper care, both sexes can live 2–3 years.
Tank Setup & Water Parameters
10 gallons or larger.
Temperature: 72–82°F.
pH: 6.8–7.8.
Dark substrate + live plants enhance blue glow.
Diet & Feeding
Like all guppies, Blue Tuxedos are omnivores and enjoy variety. A high-quality flake or micro-pellet can form the base of their diet, but supplementing with spirulina, brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia will help intensify their metallic coloration. Feeding a mix of plant- and protein-based foods keeps them both colorful and energetic.
Behavior & Tank Mates
Blue Tuxedo Guppies are peaceful, social, and very active swimmers. They do well in community aquariums alongside mollies, platies, neon tetras, corydoras, and even freshwater shrimp. Keeping them in small groups makes them more confident and fun to watch.
Breeding & Lifespan
Like other livebearers, Blue Tuxedo Guppies breed readily in home aquariums. Females carry fry for 25–28 days before giving birth to 20–40 fry per cycle. To improve fry survival, provide plenty of dense plants (like java moss) or a breeding box where the tiny guppies can hide from adults.
Female Blue Tuxedo Guppy
Females are larger with paler blue tones and shorter fins. They carry 20–40 fry each month and are calmer than males, making them great for balancing guppy groups.
