Size and Lifespan:

Electric blue guppies are relatively small, and grow up to 1.5 to 2 inches in length. They have a short lifespan, typically around 2 to 3 years, although they can live a bit longer with optimal care.

Behavior:

Electric Blue Guppies are peaceful and active swimmers, making them great community fish. They thrive in groups. Male guppies can be a bit more aggressive toward each other, especially when there are fewer females around, so it’s advisable to maintain a proper male-to-female ratio in the tank. A 2:3 male-female ratio is advisable.

Habitat and Care:

While Electric Blue Guppies are small, they are active swimmers and thrive best in a tank of at least 10 gallons. A larger tank is ideal if you plan to keep a group or a community of fish.

Electric Blue Guppies are moderately hardy and they prefer slightly alkaline water with pH ranging from 7 to 7.5. They thrive at a temperature between 72°F and 82°F. They love to live in tanks with few plants and hiding spots. Regular water changes and a balanced diet are essential for their health.

A good filtration system is important to keep the water clean and oxygenated. Guppies produce a moderate amount of waste, so regular water changes of about 25% weekly are necessary to maintain water quality.

Moderate lighting is sufficient. Too much light can encourage algae growth, while too little can affect plant growth and the fish’s vibrant colors.

Tank Mates:

Electric Blue Guppies are peaceful and can coexist with a variety of other community fish. Ideal tank mates include:

  • Other types of guppies
  • Tetras (like Neon or Cardinal Tetras)
  • Corydoras Catfish
  • Platies
  • Mollies
  • Peaceful Shrimp (like Cherry Shrimp)
