GloFish Bettas are a unique variety of the Betta fish (also known as Siamese Fighting Fish) that is genetically modified to exhibit fluorescent colors.
These fish were initially created by inserting genes from other fish species like sea anemones, into the Betta fish genome. This genetic modification causes the fish to produce fluorescent proteins. The fluorescent proteins produce vibrant colors that glow in lighting conditions.
As with any Glow Betta fish, Maintaining a suitable aquarium environment, proper filtration, water parameters, and nutrition are important for their well-being. Glo bettas have the same care requirements as regular bettas. They thrive in a temperature between 78-84 degrees Fahrenheit with good water quality and someplace to hide. These Glow Bettas are territorial fish and should not be housed with other bettas.
Glofish Bettas come in various colors like green, electric green, orange, and sunburst orange.
Sunburst Orange Glofish Betta:
Sunburst orange glofish Betta is a stunning color variation available in GlowFish bettas. These Glow Bettas have a bright orange-yellow body with a reddish hue that glows vibrantly under blue LED lights. Their Parent coloration has been achieved through genetic modification which makes them look beautiful in any aquarium. They need to be kept in isolation, preferably in a good Betta Tank with high-quality Betta feed.
Electric Green Glofish Betta:
The Electric Green GloFish betta is another colorful variety of Glow betta that displays fluoresce color or a bright electric green color. This color is the result of a protein that is exhibited throughout the body. They need to be kept in isolation with high-quality Betta feed.
Flourencent Glofish Betta:
Fluorescent glofish betta, also known as GloFish betta, is another genetically modified betta fish that appears fluorescent in color due to the fluorescent. Their glowing colors are due to their hereditary traits that are passed down from generation to generation. These are territorial fish, so they should not be housed with other bettas. They need to be kept in isolation with high-quality Betta feed.
Glofish Betta care:
Glow Betta Tank:
GloFish bettas can survive in smaller tanks with 2 to 3 gallons of Water. But a larger size of 5 to 7 gallons would provide them with enough space to swim around and thrive. The greater the tank size the more larger and faster they grow.
Provide hiding spots in the tank like live plants or natural betta caves. This will help them feel secure and reduce stress.
Water:
Glow Bettas are tropical fish and require a heater to maintain the water temperature between 78-84 degrees Fahrenheit.
A gentle filter is recommended to keep the water clean and remove toxic waste products. Bettas prefer a slow water flow, so avoid strong filters.
Perform water changes of up to 30% once a week to remove built-up waste and maintain good water quality.
Lighting:
While bright lighting is not mandatory, you can provide some LED lighting that will enhance their fluorescent colors. Regular aquarium lighting will also work.
Diet:
GloFish bettas are omnivores and they feed on a variety of food like betta pellets, flakes, and frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, brine shrimp, or daphnia.
You can feed two times a day. Feed them with a quantity they can consume in a few minutes. Overfeeding can pollute the water and lead to health problems.
Glofish Betta Tank Mates:
GloFish bettas are territorial and should not be housed with other Male bettas. You can try peaceful community fish like small rasboras and tetras. However careful monitoring is needed to ensure compatibility.
